| Comments: Percival Wilfred Bryant (b.1902 - d.1994) is known as one of the best Bow makers in England that 'never' worked for W.E. Hill & Sons. At the age of 18 he went to George Withers to apprentice in Bow making. Working at the Withers shop in London was August Hussen, a Frenchman from a famous family of Bow makers that taught Bryant. It is said that Bryant was the only British Bow maker ever to train directly with a French maker. In 1939, Bryant moved to Ovingdean (near Brighton) to start his own shop. He then developed a good reputation for making Double Bass Bows. Bryant's Frog and mounting style is quite unique. Despite being slightly long, this is a strong playing professional Bow. |
